WABA

wabaThe Washington Area Bicyclist Association, strives to create a healthy, more livable region by promoting bicycling for fun, fitness, and affordable transportation; advocating for better bicycling conditions and transportation choices for a healthier environment; and educating children, adults, and motorists about safe bicycling.

WABA works with State, Federal and local government agencies to ensure that cyclists best interests are fully represented, and monies are budgeted for cycling lanes, trails and transportation.  Below are some of the current initiatives that they're engaged with:

  • Complete Streets policies in DC and in Montgomery County, MD
  • Construction of the Metropolitan Branch Trail and Anacostia Trail
  • Increase miles of bike lanes striped across region
  • Promote bike sharing service in DC
  • Identify funding for a Bike Plan for Fairfax County
  • Reconstruction of the Rock Creek Trail
  • A Bike Coordinator for Prince George's County, MD
  • Protect the Custis Trail from the widening of I-66
  • Ensure a bike-friendly transportation center in Silver Spring
  • Improve training of police officers and bus drivers
  • Expand Bike Safety programs in Northern Virginia

We encourage all cyclists to join WABA; to participate in their cycling events; and to stay active with your local legislature concerning cycling initiatives.
