camperandbikeRecreational Vehicles

Recreational Vehicles are permitted at the Clarke County Fairgrounds free of charge with a reservation.   There's plenty of space for campers (over 50 acres) however there are only 10-12 hookups available for a $15.00 fee.  Hookups can not be reserved and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, September 18th.

Tents

Overnight camping in tents is permitted at Clarke County Fairgrounds free of charge with a reservation. There are rest rooms available for overnight guests, and you may park your car overnight at the Fairgrounds.

How to Reserve Space for RV's and Camping at Clarke County Fairgrounds

You must call the Fairgrounds Property Manager, Jim Sipe 540-955-1682 on Friday, September 16th for overnight stays on Saturday, September 17th.  Jim will not accept reservations any day, other than the day before you arrive.  If Jim does not answer the phone, simply leave a message and let him know when you're arriving, and also let him know if you have an RV or you'll be camping in your tent.

Jim is aware of our event and is expecting phone calls from riders on Friday, September 17th, so don't be concerned if you can't reach him by phone.  Just be sure to leave a message so he can determine how many RV's and campers he needs to accommodate.  Once you arrive at the Fairgrounds on Saturday, call Jim to direct you to a space.

The owners of Clarke County Fairgrounds are very accommodating to our event, so please treat them kindly and thank them for your free stay.  In fact, go ahead and surprise Jim by baking him some cookies!

Watermelon Park Campgrounds - On the Shenandoah River

rivertubingwebWatermelon Park Campgrounds is located approximately 6 miles from our ride start, right on the banks of the Shenandoah River.  The setting is stunning and highly recommended for a really unique experience.  You'll be able to rent tubes, and they'll drive you upriver so that you can float back downstream to the campgrounds.  They also offer canoes and kayaks for rent.  Arrive early if you plan on camping here, so that you can take advantage of all they have to offer.

Reservations are not accepted, therefore spaces are given out on a first-come first-served basis.  They have over 26 acres of property, so getting a space shouldn't be a problem.  It's best to call in advance to see if they're expecting crowds on your arrival date (September 18th).

Check out their website for fees, details and directions; and feel free to call the campgrounds with questions - (540) 955-4803 - Watermelon Park

Note: Overnight parking and camping is not permitted at Clarke County High School or anywhere other than the Fairgrounds.  So please respect the rules, regulations and property of the community.  It you don't, it will reflect poorly on all cyclists.  We want the local community to welcome us back again next year.  Thank you for cooperating!
